Mitzvah Corps Costa Rica Grades 10 - 12 July 12-July 20, 2009

 $2,750

We accept applications throughout the winter months from students who will be entering the 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in high school. Members of Union for Reform Judaism affiliated congregations do receive first priority though others may apply. All applications must include a $200 application fee. $150.00 IS REFUNDABLE

Personal interviews with applicants are conducted over the phone on a rolling basis and applicants are notified after the interview of the status of their application. Students are never rejected due to financial constraints, and all applicants are encouraged to seek scholarship assistance from their congregations.

FEES AND TEMPLE AFFILIATION
The cost of the program is $2400. The total price of $2400 includes all food (3 healthy meals a day), lodging, transportation in Costa Rica, materials, equipment, professional adult supervision, programmed recreational activities including a catamaran cruise, a donation to the communities visited and travel to and from Miami International Airport (MIA) and Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica. Please, note, that these fees include current (December 2007) travel taxes and that taxes are not guaranteed and will be recalculated at the time of ticketing. Additionally, every participant is responsible for their domestic travel to and from Miami International Airport.

Extra spending money (for snacks and incidentals) and passport fees are not included.
It is your responsibility to arrange and provide transportation to and from port of departure in America at the beginning and at the end of the program.

  • A non-refundable check for $200.00 must accompany the application
  • Please make checks out to URJ Mitzvah Corps
  • There will be no refunds of the deposit or tuition after June 1, 2009.
  • All fees must be paid in full by June 1, 2009.
  • Members of URJ congregations will be given first priority when applying.
  • Non members of URJ congregations are charged an additional $200 fee.
How To Complete Your Mitzvah Corps Application  

STEP 1: Download Application PDF
To apply for Mitzvah Corps, you must first download the application.

STEP 2: Fill Out Application
Fill out the application to the best of your ability. Do not forget to get a Jewish professional from your congregation (i.e. Rabbi, Youth Advisor, Cantor) to sign your application.

STEP 3: Deliver Recommendations to Recommenders
The recommender should mail the recommendation seperately from your application.

STEP 4: Send in Applicationand Application Fee by deadline
Send the completed application to:

STEP 5: Set up time with North American Mitzvah Corps Coordinator to Conduct Interview
After your completed application (including recommendations) is filed with our office, you will be contacted by the North American Mitzvah Corps Coordinator to set up a time to conduct your interview. All Mitzvah Corps participant interviews are conducted by phone.

STEP 6: Interview
The Mitzvah Corps interview typically takes 10-15 minutes.

STEP 7: Complete
Once your application is filed and your interview complete- kick back and relax. Mitzvah Corps will contact you within 2-3 weeks to let you know if you have been accepted. The acceptance letter will be sent via email as well as the mail. Read the acceptance letter carefully as it includes information to access forms to attend the program!
